For months, rumors about a new roller coaster have swirled around Kennywood Park. Those rumors were recently validated, when Kennywood announced mysterious “Project 412,” a mysterious project about which very little information was given.
Today, the project was officially unveiled: in a press conference broadcast on Facebook Live, Kennywood announced an unprecedented partnership with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and unveiled a new “Steelers Country” section of the park to open in 2019.
The main attraction of the new section will be the “Steel Curtain” roller coaster, which is expected to open with the new section.
For fans, there will be games and activities, giving them what Kennywood calls “the full [Steelers] experience.”
“We’re extremely excited about the connection to the fanbase and to the Pittsburgh market and region,” said Ryan Huzjack, the VP of Corparate Partnerships and Sales for the Steelers at the press conference. “We think they’ll be really happy about what we’ve collaborated on here.”
Along with the project itself, a sneak peak at the roller coaster was revealed, and can be viewed here:
