Protests break out in Pittsburgh over Michael Rosfeld acquittal

Pennsylvania Headlines

According to our news partner KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh, a jury has found former East Pittsburgh police officer Michael Rosfeld “not guilty” on all counts in the June 2018 shooting death of 17 year old Antwon Rose.

The jury reached the verdict after deliberating for about three and a half hours Friday evening. Rosfeld shot and killed Rose after pulling over an unlicensed taxicab suspected of being involved in a drive-by shooting just minutes earlier.

Rose, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was shot in the back as he fled. Rosfeld being the one that shot Rose was not in dispute, so the jury’s task was deciding if the shooting was justified.

According to KDKA, some protestors have taken to the streets of downtown Pittsburgh in response to the jury’s verdict.
