Police say: Bellaire man steals from elderly woman, faces 7 counts

News

Bellaire Police Chief Dick Flanagan says there’s nothing lower than stealing from the elderly.

Flanagan says a man approached an elderly woman shopping in Kroger on Tuesday, offering to “help” her by pushing her cart and getting items down from shelves for her.

Later when she was checking out, she discovered her wallet had been stolen from her purse.

“She knew right then what had happened,” said Chief Flanagan.

He said the store’s surveillance video confirmed that the man had taken it.

The chief says on Thursday, that same man stole a purse from an unlocked car parked near American Bonding, but the owner saw it happen and called the police.

Chief Flanagan says the suspect, 26-year-old Ryan Forsythe of Bellaire, is now jailed on charges of identity fraud, theft from the elderly, misuse of a credit card, theft by deception and possession of drug abuse instruments.

Flanagan confirmed the suspect admitted to police a similar crime in Moundsville and using a stolen credit card from that incident in Bellaire.

He said they are working on that case in conjunction with Moundsville Police.
