Manchin urges Trump stop ‘toxic’ talk after re-election

Shortly after Joe Manchin won a second full-term in the U.S. Senate, the West Virginia Democrat turned his attention to President Donald Trump.

Manchin defeated Republican Patrick Morrisey on Tuesday.

Trump had visited West Virginia three times to rally for Morrisey, but it wasn’t enough.

Manchin has worked hard to cozy up to the Republican president, who remains popular in West Virginia. But in his victory speech, Manchin urged a stop to the “toxic” political talk sweeping the nation. He says he wants Trump “to be the president of the United States, not the divided states.”

Despite falling short, Morrisey says he’ll “keep fighting for West Virginia’s soul” in his final two years as attorney general.
