Prayer service held at General Motors Lordstown Plant following shut down announcement

In November, General Motors announced it would lay off more than 14,000 workers and cease operations at five plants in North America, including an assembly plant in Lordstown, Ohio.

A prayer service was held Thursday as workers look to a higher power for help.

United Automobile Workers 1112 President Dave Green organized the ceremony with UAW chaplain, Norm Perry, following the announcement.

About 200 workers congregated for the prayer service. Gathers said the Lord’s Prayer and sang God Bless America. There were even a couple people with tears in their eyes.

The Lordstown plant is planned to shut down on March 1.
