President Donald Trump spoke with border agents Thursday about border security as lawmakers in Washington appeared no closer to ending the 20-day partial government shutdown.
“We’re going to build a powerful steel barrier,” said President Trump. “They said we don’t want to use concrete, we’ll use steel. It’s stronger.”
Vice President Mike Pence reaffirmed the President’s declaration back on Capitol Hill. However, Congressional Democrats insist that there is no deal on the table until the government is reopened.
“I would just say three words to my friend, the Majority leader,” said Sen. Chuck Schumer, (D) Minority Leader. “Open the government. It’s in your hands.”
Sen. Schumer led an effort by Democrats to force votes on funding to reopen the government. However, Republican Senate leaders blocked the effort.
The President will spend Friday back at the White House meeting with local leaders impacted by border security.
