It’s been six days since residents were forced to evacuate the Fort Steuben Apartments after a water line break caused both a power and water outage.
Residents said they lost both services after a line break caused the basement to fill with nearly six feet of water.
Crews have since restored the power and many residents are back in the building, but there’s still no running water.
A water buffalo is available in the parking lot for tenants to use, but resident Victoria Taylor said it’s not enough.
“There’s senior citizens in this building that are in wheelchairs. Some of them don’t have family members who can come and help them. We can’t shower, we can’t cook, we can’t even really use our bathrooms. Fix it. How hard can it be? We need it fixed,” Taylor said.
7News reached out to Robert Pritchard, asset manager of the complex, for an update on when water will be restored.
We have not heard back, but Victoria says management has been wonderful the past week.
Staff have been around 24/7 to help with any issues.
We’ll continue to keep you updated.
