According to CBS News, several fatalities have been confirmed by Florida Highway Patrol officials after a newly installed pedestrian bridge collapsed at Florida International University.
At least one person was taken as a trauma alert to the hospital, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
Vehicles can be seen stuck underneath the 950-ton bridge.
A witness told CBS News that she saw “at least five or six cars” that were crushed in the bridge collapse.
According to the witness, students at FIU are currently on spring break.
Construction of the bridge was expected to finish in early 2019. The project cost $14.2 million.
