West Virginia high school football championships are finally here.
The annual banquet was held Thursday to kick things off.
Members of the Super Six Committee, West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission board members, team representatives and sponsors were all in attendance.
However, their main focus remains on the next two days.
All three defending champions are back with two matchups being rematches from last year.
In Friday’s matchup, Bluefield and Fairmont will meet again in the Class AA Championship. The Beavers of Bluefield took last year’s championship.
For the third straight year, Martinsburg and Spring Valley will face-off for the Class AAA Championship. Martinsburg enters on a 41-game winning streak and have taken the last two championship games.
Williamstown and Wheeling Central will host the finale for the 25th Super Six Class A State Championship.
This is the fifth meeting between the two teams, and Wheeling Central have won the previous four. The Knights are going for their tenth title since 2000.
It all gets underway tomorrow at 7 p.m. with the Class AA game at Wheeling Island Stadium.
