The American Red Cross is currently on the hunt for volunteers for their disaster response efforts. The organization held a recruiting event Saturday morning at their Wheeling location on 29th Street.
“When people come in today, we’re going over a brief orientation about what Red Cross disaster does and then we’re helping them get through the five step online process to help them become a volunteer,” said Todd Wines, Manager, Disaster Program.
Wines said the Red Cross is short staffed where volunteers are concerned and that they could use some extra bodies to help assist with their Disaster Action Team as well as volunteers to help install smoke alarms and educate elementary school students about fire preparedness.
Members of the Disaster Action Team are on call one week out of the month and respond to fire and flooding events. The American Red Cross North-West, West Virginia chapter covers 17 counties across the Mountain State.
