The Trump Administration looks to cease Title X funding to any organization that refers or provides abortions to patients.
In a new guideline from the United States Department of Health and Human Services, it said funds to “perform, promote, refer for, or support abortion as a method of family planning,” will now be prohibited.
The rules also prohibit clinics and abortion providers in the same location. The aim is to reduce “any confusion on the part of Title X clinics and the public about permissible Title X activities between the two.”
Title X (10) is the federal program that gives millions of low-income Americans access to birth control and other reproductive health services.
People who oppose this rule said the new rules would force groups like Planned Parenthood to reduce the number of locations. Some locations are said to be in low-income areas.
The new rules also said it would focus on “approaches to expand Title X services to unserved and underserved areas” and to “target sparsely populated areas historically without Title X services.”
There are multiple locations in the Twin Tiers including those in Elmira, Corning, Watkins Glen, and Hornell.
