U.S. Attorney’s Office forecasting decrease in violent crimes in 2019

2018 is almost over, but the legal battle against drugs continues.

7News caught up with U.S. Attorney Bill Powell to talk about goals for the New Year.

He said after a successful year prosecuting drug cases, they hope to do the same in 2019, especially in violent cases.

According to Powell, with the increase of methamphetamine, officials are seeing more violence in drug cases.

But with their plan, Project Safe Neighborhoods, in place they believe things will soon change.

“I think, with luck, and good old fashioned work we’re doing from a law enforcement standpoint, we’re going to see decreases in those categories of violent crime and drug distribution in our area. So, we;re juts going to keep plugging along and do what we do,” Powell said.
