UPDATE (Feb. 26): ODOT continues to work towards a solution for the pavement issue in the northbound lane on State Route 7 near Toronto.
Once the cause is determined, ODOT will move forward with a permanent fix.
Detour information is available below:
- Starting at the intersection of U.S. 22 and Route 7
- You’ll take 22 West to State Route 43.
- 43 North to State Route 152.
- Then State Route 152 north back to Route 7.
ORIGINAL (Feb. 25): The Northbound lane of Route 7 just beyond the Franklin Street exit in Toronto closed on Monday evening.
ODOT officials said a large dip has formed in that lane. They said it’s become so large it could, in fact, pose a danger to motorists.
Transportation officials said they are not sure what caused the dip but state engineers are on the scene trying to determine the best course of action.
“We are not afraid that the road will fall in but our biggest concern is that we are getting a pretty good dip and if somebody is not paying attention to the reduced speed at 45 mph, if they hit that, they could lose control of their car,” said Ty Justice, the ODOT Transportation Administrator of Jefferson County.
Detour signs are posted. The Southbound lane will remain open.
