There is talk in the West Virginia Legislature about creating a satellite location for gambling in every county where race tracks reside.
This comes after a bill was introduced into the House of Delegates.
In a radio interview, Racing Association President John Cavacini said that the only track that has shown interest has been Wheeling Island.
Cavacini gave the tracks reasons as the past issues with flooding and the impending plans of road construction on Interstate 70.
“Decline in revenues that they saw during tunnel construction, for the couple of years the tunnel were under construction, a huge impact to the bottom line,” said Delegate Erikka Storch (R-Ohio) ,who is one of the sponsors of the bill. “And with that type of impact again, could be detrimental to their operation.”
7News has left messages with both Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack and Ohio County Commission, which operates the Highlands, and are waiting for their response to this proposed legislation.
