Preparations are underway for the new youth center on Wheeling Island.
The House of the Carpenter will break ground on the new facility Wednesday April 25th at 1:30 PM. More than 200 students from Madison Elementary will be there and will be the first to shovel the dirt.
The new building will be approximately 85-hundred square feet with two floors. It will have a half court gym and multi-purpose room. It will also connect to their current building. This is a $2 million dollar project, and so far they have raised $1.3 million dollars.
Dr. Michael Linger, the Executive Director for the House of the Carpenter, said, “one of our goals is to be able to construct this and to have it done without having any debt to it. We want to continue to put the emphasis on being able to do the program and provide the resource that kids need. So we don’t want to have a large mortgage or a large debt that we have to pay down.”
The project is scheduled to be finished by late 2019, and they are still accepting donations. If you would like to make a donation, you can go onto their website here.
