NEW DETAILS: Charges released in Roane County shootout with State Police

UPDATE: Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017 @ 11:30 a.m.

New information has been released in an investigation which resulted in two law enforcement officers being shot.  Officials with the West Virginia State Police said Stanley Hoskins, Jr., 52, is charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of malicious wounding, one count of domestic battery, one count of domestic assault.

The victims are Zachary Hartley with the West Virginia State Police and Mike King with the Roane County Sheriff’s Department.  Both were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The combined efforts of officers from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department, Charleston Police Department, Clendenin Police Department and West Virginia State Troopers resulted in the taking Hoskins into custody shortly after midnight on Thursday.

Hoskins was taken to the hospital for treatment for exposure to the elements and possible hypothermia due to the extreme cold.  He was then taken to Charleston Area Medical Center.

Capt. Reggie Patterson with West Virginia State Police said two law enforcement officers were shot in Roane County on Wednesday, Dec, 27, 2017.  It began when Troopers responded to a suicide call on Red Oak Drive off of Price Ridge Road in Roane County just after 6 p.m. 

A woman called 911 thinking a man in the house had committed suicide.  When investigators arrived they were met with gun fire from the man. 

That man has been identified as 52-year-old Stanley Gordon Hoskins Jr. One trooper was shot in the leg. His injuries are not serious. Another man, a Roane County deputy, was also struck. His injuries are also not serious. 

The woman was able to escape, and the man barricaded himself inside the house.  Troopers pulled back from the home and called for assistance. 

Troopers have the house surrounded on Red Oak Drive, along with SWAT and deputies.

ORIGINAL STORY: A West Virginia State Trooper has been shot in Roane County Wednesday night.

According to West Virginia State Police, troopers were responding to a suicide call on Red Oak Drive off of Price Ridge Road in Roane County just after 6 p.m.

Troopers responded to the call, and upon approach was met with gunfire.

One trooper was shot in the leg. We’re told his injuries are not serious.

Troopers regressed and called for assistance.

Troopers have a house surrounded on Red Oak Drive.

Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office and West Virginia State Police responded. 

A military helicopter has been requested to the scene.
