A construction accident in Ohio County has left one man dead.

According to officials, the man was working on GC&P Road between McGraw’s and Dement, helping to move a pipeline.

Authorities say the equipment, an excavator, slipped and pinned the man.

Ohio County Sheriff Tom Howard said the frozen ground was a factor in the accident.

MarkWest Energy Partners is the company doing the project, but had two sub-contractors working on it as well.

MarkWest Energy Partners has issued the following statement in regards to the accident:

“At approximately 1:00 p.m. today, while installing new pipe on a right of way in Ohio County, West Virginia, a subcontractor was fatally injured. Federal and state regulatory agencies have been contacted. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and co-workers of the deceased.”

Officials are conducting an investigation.
