Sen. Joe Manchin, (D) West Virginia, stepped in to help save Sen. Claire McCaskill, (D) Missouri, when she began choking at a luncheon for Senate Democrats on Thursday, the AP reports.
A spokesperson for Sen. Manchin told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that McCaskill began choking during a luncheon for Senate Democrats on Thursday. Manchin used the Heimlich maneuver to dislodge the blockage in McCaskill’s throat. In the process, McCaskill suffered a cracked rib, but the blockage was removed.
“I’m really grateful to Joe – a little bit of a sore rib for a couple of weeks is no big deal,” McCaskill said, according to The Hill.
McCaskill didn’t allow her injury to slow her down, as she spoke to Democrats at the Truman Dinner in St. Louis on Saturday, and will continue her campaign trail as normal.
