Teachers from both Ohio and Marshall counties lined Marshall Street in Benwood on Monday to express their thoughts about the PEIA issue.
There were about 35 teachers who showed up to picket saying they are worth more than the 1% raise that legislature is proposing. They say that the 1% will not cover the rising costs of their insurance, and they also are not happy that their benefits could potentially go away.
They want the state’s legislation to make choices that the public employees can benefit from. Elaine Sedilko, the Local President of Ohio County Education Association, said, “Because we all are one, and we are all on the same page. We need a change. We need to get the respect that we deserve.”
