As West Virginia Lawmakers head back to Charleston for the 2019 Legislative Session on Wednesday, teachers across the state are standing in solidarity.
On Wednesday, teachers and service personnel joined together to remind Governor Justice and community lawmakers of the necessity for better funding.
Their “Wear Red for Ed” campaign comes on the heels of last year’s lengthy teacher’s strike across the state.
Before school started, teachers and service personnel could be seen wearing red outside of school, holding signs, and highlighting what students need in the classroom.
They believe there are still a number of issues that need to be addressed within West Virginia schools.
These issues include around 700 teacher vacancies across the state, millions needed to bring West Virginia education standards up to “where they should be”, and more.
