WVU student dies after falling from balcony

UPDATE (4/16/18 at 2:30 p.m.):

West Virginia University officials confirmed that Colton Hodge, 22, has died after falling more than 30 feet from a balcony on Forest Avenue Wednesday.

Hodge, of Falls Church, Va., was a third-year student majoring in exercise physiology, according to university officials.

Counseling services are being provided to the WVU community through the Carruth Center, officials said.

A bell-ringing service in Hodge’s honor will be announced at an appropriate time, officials said.


A West Virginia University student fell from a balcony Wednesday.

Colton Hodge, 22, fell backward more than 30 feet from a balcony on Forest Avenue at approximately 4:49 p.m., according to the Morgantown Police Department.

Police said the Morgantown Fire Department and Monongalia County EMS were providing medical treatment to Hodge when they arrived on scene.

Hodge was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital, where he had emergency surgery. Police said Hodge is in critical condition.
