Faculty at Wheeling Jesuit University passed a Resolution Friday in response to the University’s recent financial crisis announcement.
Faculty at WJU released the following statement in a press release:
“This is a difficult time for everyone, and the faculty recognizes the incredible pressure that leadership is facing,” says Faculty Council Chair and Associate Professor of Theology Jessica Wrobleski. “This Resolution is not to question the administration’s intent, but to call them— even in this time of difficulty—to make decisions that prioritize people over budgets, as our Catholic tradition demands.”
The Resolution is asking WJU officials to offer teach-out plans to students in the case of a closure of the University.
Faculty members are also asking school officials to honor existing contracts and to involve faculty moving forward during the financial exigency.
