WV Northern unveils structures for an area playground

News

It was a big day at West Virginia Northern Community College in Wheeling on Friday, as they unveiled several new pieces of equipment that will be placed at an area playground.

Students at WVNCC built two all-in-on basketball hoop and soccer goal structures. The equipment will now head to Jensen Playground on Wheeling Island for the kids to use.

Officials said this structure will be one-of-a-kind in the City of Wheeling.

“It’s  an element that can bring multi-use to our facility,” said Director of Parks and Recreation Jesse Mestrovic. “It doesn’t matter if you bring a basketball or a soccer ball with you, there will be something for you to do at our parks.”

The structures were built by seniors John Duplaga, Cameron Kefauver, Tyler McCracken and Josh Thacker.

“I’d like to try it myself,” Duplaga added. “It’s nice though that people get to use this. They get to have fun I guess.”

City officials feel the new equipment will really maximize the space at Jensen Playground.
