Wheeling takes huge hit with no Super Six Championships

Ohio County

WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF)- The hits just keep coming this year, most recently with the Super Six Championships being cancelled.

Last year, the Super Six attracted around 30,000 people to the friendly city.

This year without the championships gas stations, hotels and restaurants will continue to feel the negative economic impact from COVID-19.

Millions of dollars will be left on the table without the football championships coming to Wheeling.

They say one motor coach, which is about 56 people, that is about $113 per person in economic impact. That’s just 56 people. Super Six brought in 25-30,000 people that actively stayed the night. I can’t do that math at the top of my head but it’s a lot, in the millions.

This year does not count towards Wheeling’s three year contract with the Super Six Championships so the hopes for a positive turn around in the next three to five years.
