The new Belmont Savings Bank Indoor Practice Facility construction is officially underway at West Liberty University.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Monday morning. The new facility will be built in the parking lot of Beta Hall, adjacent to the current softball fields.
The next step in the project is removing of some of the parking lot surfaces to further prepare the site. University President, Dr. Stephen Grenier said the new facility will benefit the majority of students on campus.
“This is a facility that will be the first of its kind in the MEC Conference but it was actually the result of a student survey that was taken on campus when students indicated that they would like to have more recreation in the gym but it was occupied by athletic teams during indoor practice.”
President & CEO Belmont Savings Bank, Todd Cover said, “It’s a project that made sense to us because it helps students at West Liberty, not just the student-athletes. It’s an exciting project for us and we are happy to help out any way we can.”
West Liberty University baseball player, Brian Campbell said, “Us getting this facility for baseball and softball is extremely advantageous for us to succeed in the spring.”
Dr. Grenier said the total cost of the project will be around $500,000.
It is expected to be complete sometime in November.
