March Madness is officially under way. The opening round games started around noon Thursday.

But many companies lose out on money during the popular tournament. Researchers say a lot of productivity is lost at workplaces during the college basketball playoffs.

‘Office Team’ suggests Americans spend 25 and a half minutes during their work day on sports activities during March Madness, and with the tournament spread across a few weeks, that is a total of six hours.

“Filling out brackets, doing research, watching games on TV. Now you can watch games on your cell phone. Theres a lot of people doing things they probably shouldn’t during this tie,” said Jason Haswell of the Monteverde Group.

Reports show that around $4 billion is wasted nationwide during the NCAA Tournament.
