The newest football team in West Virginia is adding a little of the state’s gridiron roots to build off of for their inaugural season.
The West Virginia Roughriders announced on Twitter on Thursday that the team will be signing former WVU running back and 2008 Fiesta Bowl champion Noel Devine to the team’s roster.
Devine played four years for the Mountaineers rushing for over 4,000 yards, becoming only the fourth player in Big East history to post that number. He scored 31 total touchdowns for the Mountaineers, and was a regular honoree as Big East Offensive Player of the Week.
“I’m excited to be back in West Virginia,” said Devine, “ready to play once again, in front of the greatest fans in the world.”
Roughriders Owner and General Manager Gregg Fornario is excited to see what Devine has to offer the team.
“The first thing I can say is that he is extremely talented,” said Fornario. “Being a fan favorite at WVU, he now gets to play once again in front of the Mountaineer fans. His speed will definitely shine through in this fast-paced game.”
